Bench Espresso

I’ve noticed in recent years small-good-coffee-limit-food style cafe has become THE trend in many parts of Perth: CBD, Freo, Mossie Park, Vic Park, Northbridge etc.  These cafe often pride themselves for the gourmet blend (or blends) of coffee beans they have.  They often would have a limit range of food to compliment their coffee, things like toast, muffin, loaves, baguette etc.  Out of all of them Elixir and Mini are my absolute.  A girlfriend of mine who works @ RPH lately has mentioned the new addition to town: benchespresso.  So me and my brother Gary decided to head down town to check it out.

So the usual for small-good-coffee-limit-food style cafe: ambient environment with limited seating, filled with takeaway coffee go-ers, lovely looking cakes/cookies/muffin sitting in shining pristine glass display.  We were a little surprised the limitation of morning food they provide: toast, chocolate pistachio loaf and sweet muffin.  so we order the usual: skinny latte + loaf for me, latte + muffin (cherry white choc) for gary.

There was a little confusion at first with the coffee but it was all good at the end (with no apology).  I am a coffee lover but no coffee expert.  The latte there has a slight ‘salty’ after taste to it which reminds me of the good old Five Sense blend.  But overall the latte was not bad.  The loaf was lightly toasted and served with butter; moist and full of coco-ness.  gary’s muffin tasted under-baked.

Overall not a bad little cafe for a cup wake-me-up.  I’ve noticed they also have a small range of lunch.  Might pop in to try it next time.
